RESCUE: HUALAPAI MOUNTAINS, NEAR MOSS WASH
About 6:45pm Sunday (8/16) evening, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office received a call for help from a 37-year-old male and a 32-year-old female who indicated they had rolled their Polaris UTV while recreating in a remote area of the Hualapai Mountains. The male was an off-duty paramedic and the female was an off-duty nurse, and both indicated they were uninjured and did not need any medical attention – just some supplies and help. They had no food or water, but had been hiking to gain cellphone service. Search and rescue was activated and began responding to their location. About 8:15pm, the female nurse called and indicated the male was now experiencing back and side pain and showing signs of dehydration and their situation had become a dire emergency. The DPS Ranger helicopter out of Flagstaff was launched to bring medical intervention to their location. They were both extracted from the remote wilderness area and brought to a local hospital, where they refused medical attention. In the meantime, the rescuers and resources that were inbound to their location were released and responded to the emergency search in the White Hills area. Search and Rescue wants to remind everyone to bring plenty of supplies when recreating in the remote wilderness areas of Mohave County – and never travel with only one vehicle. Traveling in groups increases the chances for people to self-rescue and resolve many of the issues motorists can face while recreating in the back country areas of the county.
